Could burning you tongue ample times alter your taste buds?

Hi, guys. Well,my friend has burnt her tongue many times because of hot food, cold food, and citric acid foods (pineapple?) and she was wondering if it's possible that her taste buds have been messed up or something as a result, so that she can't taste sweet food very well?
