  1. chrome does not rust.  chrome is a plating, usually over a material that will rust.  when the chrome plating is scratched it allows the underlying material to rust.  yes, once the rusting process starts it could go through.


  2. yes. once the surface has been compromised, all it takes is water & oxygen. if you keep the scratch clean, you can slow the effects.
