Question:

Could depression be considered an unsatisfied lust?

Personally, Ive noticed many who have the basic necessities: food, water, etc., many of whom are middle class, to be depressed or unhappy with their life. Most lower class people Ive also known have been fairly happy with their lives, despite their struggle through poverty.

Could depression, therefore, be thought of as a lust created by the easy access to and possession of basic needs, such as food, water, shelter, etc., the desire for something more created by the assumption that their secure condition is nothing to be grateful for, and the basic dependency on domestication?

Im not sure that Im wording this as best I can so tell me if you get my point.

  1. Alot of people in poverty live in hope. " A man can survive 3 days without water, 7 days without food but not 30 seconds without hope". If a person in the middle class has everything they need, and become bored with their life what do they have to hope for?Thats why depressed are often encouraged to get involved with something of interest. People in poverty tend to always be hopeful to see a better day. The thought they could find themselves successful in a years time is a years worth of hope and happiness.

  2. With repeated experiencing of whatever emotions or rather the chemical result of these, a habit and addiction is created in all people.

What the cause is for the addictive events is another matter.  Of course their will be, as you indicated, different exposures to different events depending on family and social structure.  These events also produce either a 'good'  feeling or a 'bad' one.  Making the choice to approach the 'good' feeling ones automatically leads people to distance themselves from the 'bad' feeling ones.  This provides joy of living.  On the other hand if one happens to choose to fight against the 'bad' feeling ones, then more of the same are mechanically gotten addicted to simply by the force of the repetition of such thoughts and the mechanical release of chemicals in the body.

You can see the result every day in the news where those you would normally least suspect are dragged into court to face the criminal charges they have always fought against, such as policemen, senators, federal judges, and so on till eternity.

The others get the opportunity to learn from their 'mistake'  which isn't the mistake of not fighting against the "negative producing events" as many would expect, but to really start trying to figure out why or how these people could so illogically get themselves embroiled in such behavior.  Really, imo, it is just a matter of luck as to whether one is predisposed to be drawn by the 'good' feeling emotion or to fight against the 'bad' feeling ones.  Either way all become addicted.

This should produce many more questions and that imo, is "good".

    Cheers!

This is what you called ''an unsatisfied lust".       Cheers!
