Question:

Could drinking a lot of caffeïne (cola light) cause bones (wrists, in particular) to get thin and weakened?

Hi, i am an 18 year old male, weighing 155 pounds, 183 centimeters high. I drink plenty of milk, and get in enough nutrients of any kind for as far as i know. I work out quite often, including running, weight lifting, boxing, etc. I have noticed, however, that my wrists are quite thin and small in my opinion. Its been driving me nuts the last few months, ever since i fell on my left wrist i started paying more attention to how it looks, and though it has healed entirely and looks exactly like my right one, i feel they are quite thin indeed. I drink about 1.5 litres of diet coke a DAY (i fear im caffeine addicted ^^ ) and wonder whether or not that could have something to do with it. Any ideas?

  1. No I don't think the caffeine is making your wrists thin, that would just be your body frame size. But drinking too much soda does cause your bones to be less dense so they will eventually be weak. But not right now, when you are much older.

  2. Not at your age, no.

But, once you are into your 50s and 60s, drinking too much cola will cause calcium to be depleted from your bones, causing frequent fractures and osteoporosis type symptoms.

  3. soda causes calcium to be removed from the bones, teeth etc.

  4. The size of your wrists depends on your genes. Some people really just have small wrists. I know I do! My mom does to and she is quit  overweight.

Don't sweat it, drinking caffeine has nothing to do with how skinny your wrists are.
