I have an indoor cat who has not had fleas for like a year. well 2 day on my baby's changing table, I found a flea! and I know like with any insect where one flea is there are many more! so, I am just concerned over any health risks fleas might carry for my month-old baby girl (who has not yet been vaccinated for anything but hep b). I mean, I had a dog when I was newborn and she probably had fleas but I am just worried of diseases these fleas might carry? any1 know if they could pose any threat to my daughter's health?>

I must add that my cat has had worms and I was told they cant spread from animals to humans but the cat got them from the fleas. now I am really worried about that!

  1. If you get on the flea problem now... there won't be any risk to any of you.

You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus at drsfostersmith.com . The Capstar will kill all the fleas on your cat almost instantly and the frontline will prevent re-infestation. Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline (or advantage, revolution, promeris, etc.) is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of those three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you Capstar add on the Frontline Plus and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline. Refrontline every 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four weeks of age. Package of 6.

  2. "I have an indoor cat who has not had fleas for like a year."

She said her cat had NOT had fleas for a year, not that it has had them for a year. Maybe you should learn to read peoples questions properly.

I would google getting rid of fleas.

What i did was give my flat a thorough hoovering, i washed all the floors and, at the same time, I put a defleaing spray on my cats. Then make sure you hoover at least once a day and put a flea collar on the kitty to make sure they all die. It may take a week or two to get it under control, but its worth persevering.

    Hope this helps! :o)

  3. dont be so quick to blame the cat. fleas ride on humans clothes. you might have brought the flea to the baby.

you would have to check with a doc, but i dont see how fleas could hurt the baby. unless of course you had an infestation and the baby had 100 flea bites.

  4. IF YOUR cat / HOUSE HAS FLEAS….

I have a NATURAL remedy for getting rid of fleas in your house.

Go to the Store and buy some 20 Mule Team BORAX.

Then sprinkle it all over. Carpets, couch, bedding, pillows, pet beds, car, even wood floors. (NOT ON YOUR PET!)

    THEN VACCUME IT UP.

What Boax does is coats the eggs ... The eggs hatch deformed or unable to reproduce.

You will have to do this 2 or 3x about a week apart in order to get all the egg cycles.

FOR YOUR PET. Use the flea killer that is on the market or use a flea comb (this is also a head lice comb) especially for kittens or puppys who are too young to have insecticide put on them.

Kill the fleas that you find on the comb with soap or alcohol

If you do this NOW then by the time your baby is up crawling or just laying around on the floor all the fleas will be gone.

Fleas do not like human blood... so that is why you might have bites on your ankles but they won't be living on you..

    GOOD LUCK.

  5. I would say that one flea would not pose a significant risk to your baby. It could have been tracked there by something you picked up from outside. Fleas are known to hitch rides on people even though we are not their favorite habitats (due to our lack of fur). The flea might have also jumped into your baby's carseat or diaper bag. I would keep a sharp eye out for other fleas. Once they get into your house, they are hard to get rid of, especially if you have carpeting.

  6. I have googled fleas and newborn babies online and the only thing I found was just be aware that pests, such as fleas, can be transmitted from pets to children. Just try to keep your cat clean and flea free if you can. I wouldn't want Lily being all scratchy from getting flea bites. We got adopted a new dog not 2 long ago now and we moved into a new house so now he has fleas from the previous dog that lived there, the dang fleas were biting the heck out of me so I got rid of those fleas for good. I just went to the vet and he gave her a little tube its called "FrontLine Plus" you may have heard about it on tv or what not. It supposedly keeps them away for a few months at a time. Its not very expensive but its worth it if you hate those itchy flea bites like I do :) I didnt read or find anywhere that says fleas can be harmful or anything like that though.

  7. Well just calm down ;-))  You don't have to be scared. Even if your home was a flea haven all it would mean is those itchy bites, unless you or your daughter were allergic to fleas. And cats can get worms from eating fleas but that hasn't been shown to be a pathway for human flea-eaters to get worms.

Time to take action! Get your vet to prescribe "Revolution" for your cat. Use it once a month behind the cats head and no more fleas or worms or ticks or ear mites or heartworm! I know I sound like a commercial for Revolution but it is so darn good!

Around your home you can use different carpet-flea-sprays with an ingredient that kills the eggs. Usually one application done well will clean out all the fleas if it is in the early stages you say it is. Or you can go with 20-mule-team Borax as stated by another poster.

Keep your cat off of the crib and dressing areas. You should make it through this calamity OK !!

  8. If your cat has had fleas for over a year and you have no intention of getting rid of the fleas and then using the prevention than you have no right having cats or kids. get rid of the freggin fleas, they will eat your baby and leave all kinds of red itchy bumps and as a bonus, if your baby swallows one of the fleas in her sleep, she will get tapeworm! awesome! next time you think about becoming responsible for another life, human or not, think again as you clearly do not have the resources to do so properly.
