The planet heated up and massive global drought killed about 90 odd percent of all specieson earth. Could earth be heading that way again, and can mankind survive it.

  1. Nope.  The planet isn't experiencing a world wide drought.

Some people even say that warming causes more precipitation.

Warmth is good for life.  More new species are being discovered now than any other time in history.

Cold is what kills off species.

  2. absolutely not....  Do you know what caused the permian extinction?  The siberian traps is a massive lava field in russia, which studies shows, seems to have erupted for around a million years on end around the same time as that extinction.  And they think that eruption might have even been caused by a meteor striking the earth.  It cant get any worse than that, can it?  A meteor hitting, then a million year long, largest single lava flow in existence?

Theyve been able to link large impacts with lava flows on a couple occasions.  The dino killer happened around the same time as there was a large volcanic period on the indian sub-continent.  The theory is the impact in one spot causes volcanic activity on the exact other side of the planet because of the seismic waves collide and weaken the crust.  Its tough to say exactly what can happen when something larger than mt.everest hits the earth.

  3. To bad it didn't include mosquitoes and cockroach's.

  4. We have the answer, tonite on your eleven o' clock news... that and that latest on Britney!

  5. Well, in a sense, yes--but also no.  IF the current global warming continued long enough and became severe enough--then yes. However, keep in maind that mankind can stop it--since we are the cause, through releas of greenhouse gases.

But also, it will stop well before it reaced the extreme you mention--simply because the effects of climate change will cause our civilization to collapse well before that point is reached if we don't stop CO2 emissions (etc.) before then.

That's not a "scare tactic." Simply an observation--Ifully expect the problem to be solved in time. But it would take farr less than a "Permian extinction" scenario to bring down our current civilization.  Here's just ONE effect--far short of that--to think about (remember, this is just ONE of the consequences of global warming): over 90% of the glaciers world wide are melting--and will be mostly gone in a few decades (certainly in htis century).  Now--70% f the populations of India and China depend on those glaciers for fresh water to drink--torun industry--to grow food.

Take away JUST that one resource--and what happens?   For starters, they will fight for what water is left--they will haeve no choice--and both arenuclear powers.
