We can and have created many technological devices such as MP3's and Computers, and even robots. Apparently we are extremely advanced, but could we ever install real life emotion into one of our creations?

  1. not in the near future, ai is a very tricky thing, at first it looks easy, then you find a problem with your software, so you write a new line of code, then you find that new line conflicts with the origional software, so write a new line, and you get another error, and so on untill you end up writing millions of lines of code, and you still cant have a robot lover!   in theory, it would be possible, and some very intersting advances are being made in this feild, but i wouldnt expect to be seing robots in this lifetime.

  2. Yes, I believe the Japanese could do that one day, they've had created some pretty human-like robots already & are using them to care for older folks who lived alone. Their next level of development would be to create companion robots with social skills for the general people. Right now, there's the Aibo robotic pet that reacts to your voice & behaviour pattern.

  3. Never we will only be cloning animals not creating emotions

  4. NO,have you not watched the terminator, machines with emotions would judge the human race in a nanosecond and that would be bad for us.

  5. its impossible, only god can give things emotions

  6. Besides children, no.

  7. ...no, how would it use the toilet, there isn't any toilet paper...and experience that emotion...

  8. For to find any viable answer we must first know what are emotions, and where do they come from. As there is no clear quantification of what emotions are it is simply hard to reach a firm conclusion.

Personally I would disagree, we through millions of years of evolution have evolved to feel emotions. Just like we would never be able to create something with free thought, I personally think there would never be anything created that can feel emotions. Unless part of something that already feels emotions is incorporated ie a hybrid combination. Emotions will never be created from scratch.

Just to follow up I think emotions are derived from the same place where our conscious exists, or what ever we constitute as a conscious.

  9. No way

  10. Humans HAVE created something and given it emotions.

    The Smiley Face!  :)

  11. I don't see why not.  There is nothing magical, divine, or supernatural about emotions.  They are entirely based in the physical world.  Our brains are really just very sophisticated neural-net computers; simpler, man-made neural nets should also be capable of emotions, if constructed properly.

Actually, it could be argued that we already have done this.  Check out the Nova ScienceNow episode below and watch the video.  The robot in the story can read human emotions, and respond in kind.

  12. Children

  13. So far we can make something seem it has emotion
