Okay, i run track at my high school, and i've been on varsity for the 800m(my time is 3:00). I hate 800m! i've always loved the 400, and i asked to do it at my last track meet. I came second in my heat and my time was 1:12. Now this girl on my team that's in varsity for 400m went to sectionals, and ran her 400m in 1:09. Could i possibly be on varsity for 400m instead of 800m next year, cause a 3 second difference wasn't that bad to me. so should i ask my coach can i do 400m and possibly 4x4 next year?

  1. yea u definitely should and could be on varsity but u have to remember its not just ur good time that will help u also have to show ur coach u deserve it by working hard at it and making that 3 second difference disappear and becoming possibly more suited for it with an outstanding time

  2. definately

  3. It depends on the other schools you face. In the league that my school is in, most girls run under a 3 minute 800, but im sure you can get your time down by next year. Your 400 time isn't that bad either, i've ran the 400 on varsity before and the others in the heat get 70 or under. If you get your times down a few seconds i think you could run the 400 and the 4x4.

  4. Yea you could, but the shorter the distance, the more of a difference there is in a second, and in this case, those three seconds count for a lot

  5. i ran the 400 this year and it is very hard tjo improve even by a second . but im not a very fast sprinter im actualy opposite of you. i switched to the 800 and became district champ. my best time is also 1:12 but if you really work at practice your will be able to get at least around 1:07

  6. yea but ur 400 time isnt that good its average this 8th grader at my school runs a 1:01 u should be at about 1:05

  7. Yea definitely!I am a freshman on varsity for the 400m dash and I run about a 1:09 in the beginning of the year and now im down to 59.46!I showed my sprinter coach that I have the determination to be not only a good runner, but a determined great runner. But you also might consider doing the 800 still just for endurance.

  8. Work hard in practices (I mean really hard), and anything is achievable.

  9. yes you could do it however just to help you do better you should consider getting a better time
