also, how many fancy goldfish could i fit into a two gallon tank? not the really big ones, but the ones that are a little plumper than the common Comet goldfish. When i asked a lady at petsmart, she didnt seem as concerned about the one inch of fish per gallon rule, so i didnt know if the rule was not as strict when it came to goldfish. And i thought ammonia with goldfish was a problem with other fish, but she said i could mix with tropical fish. I just wanted to check before i even considered it.

  1. ok, no you can not mix them The goldfish need much cooler temps than the hatchets do. Also, fancy goldfish(The little babies you see in the pet store) Will get BIG! They need 10 gallons each. the only thing you could have in a 2 gallon is 1 betta or 2 male guppies.

  2. Those little fancy goldfish that you see in stores get a lot bigger.

    As in, normally 6-8" long.

They need 20 gallons for each fish. Also, they are cold water fish, enjoying temperatures no higher than 73 degrees. If the silver hatchet fish can handle those temperatures, then maybe... But chances are, they are still a lot faster swimmers so they shouldn't be kept together. And the ammonia issue is wayyy over used. Goldfish do NOT produce more ammonia than any other fish of their size. Don't listen to that.

  3. You can mix tropical and gold fish no problem. The 1" rule is only a guide line. The hatchets may eat the tails of the goldfish. It depends on their temperament.

  4. i think hatchets are tropical and goldfish are coldwater so no

that goldfish sounds like a type of fancy goldfish and needs 20 gallons for the first one and 10 for each additional
