yesterday i was driving, on the right lane( on 4 lane road, where 2 go a certain direction and the other 2 go the opposite direction).

ok so i was driving and and i see two police officers driving around( no sirens or lights on or anything like that) and i guess that one of them wanted pass me up b/c the driver on the left lane was going slow. so he turned to the right lane W/O THE TURNING LIGHT.i felt like he turned in to close to my car and i was about to have an accident. so i hit the brakes but not slammed on them. i wanted to hit the horn but i didnt know if i was going to get in trouble.

so could i get in trouble for honking my horn at a police officer?

  1. NO you cannot get in trouble becuase they are just people. Why would they put a horn in the car if your not allowed to honk it. And if they arrest you they will more then likely get in trouble.

  2. I would say the situation that happened of a possible car wreck caused by a policeman, then no, you can't get in trouble. You were in the right place, no trouble, and he, without his turning light, turned to you without you knowing, too close and having to make you hit the brake to stop a wreck from happening. So at that moment yes.

  3. Some states actually have laws prohibiting the honking of a horn unless it is a necessary warning. If the honk was before the incident, you are fine. If the honk is after the fact, it would not be necessary. Here is Wisconsin's law:

    347.38(1)   Unnecessary use of horn

No person shall at any time use a horn otherwise than as a reasonable warning or make any unnecessary or unreasonably loud or harsh sound by means of a horn or other warning device.

  4. It depends.  I live in Missouri where honking at someone is legally considered road rage, and the cop could enforce it with a ticket.

  5. I would think that would be a bad idea.

There's no need to draw unwanted attention to yourself.

  6. In my own state:

    Section 32-5-213

    Horns and warning devices.

"It shall be unlawful for any vehicle to be equipped with or for any person to use upon a vehicle ... at any time to use a horn otherwise than as a reasonable warning or to make any unnecessary or unreasonably loud or harsh sound by means of a horn or other warning device."

So...to avert a hazardous situation...the use of your horn would have been the right thing to do!

As some would think...the police don't make the laws...they only enforce those laws the voters provide for!

  7. Of course, cops are d**ks they can give you a ticket or arrest you for anything, they even lie in court
