i go to a public high school

I have a 3.8 gpa (unweighted)

all honors/ap classes

1400 (out of 1600) on the SAT

32 ACT

subject tests results i do not have yet

i have played violin for 8 years, cello for 5 1/2 (privately and at school)

i have been on the debate team since 8th grade, and have been to nationals twice (not a very significant placing) and tournament of champions twice. I also went to a debate camp at northwestern.

My team also placed 5th at nationals in mock trial my junior year.

I am a very active member in a national youth rights association (i have done one protest, fliers etc at school)

I also had an internship at a local newspaper station for a year

and i have been working at least part time since i was 15 or so

also im a member of the national honor society

and in the top 10% of my class. (not sure of the rank, know it was under 40 and class of 700 maybe)

What are my shots of getting into Brown University?

  1. I would say you have a solid chance.

Try to improve your SAT though... 1400 is not that great

Remember though that brown will be expensive

  2. Don't listen to jb. Her answers on this site are stupid. She basically spends her time telling others that they can't get into top schools just because they're not wind-up dolls!

My suggestion -- apply. My friend got into Brown with a 1600/2400 on his SAT, 3.5 WEIGHTED GPA, but good extracurriculars.

    Seriously. That woman is lame.

  3. You would be in the running, but your activities would have to be deemed exceptional because you're grades and scores are on the low end for Brown. Other things that would help would be being from an under represented state (Alaska, the Dakotas, Mississippi), being low income, black/hispanic/native American. If you are white/Asian, middle class and from the North East, Mid Atlantic or CA, you probably won't get in without really raising scores.

  4. I would say that you have a pretty good shot. I would apply early if I were you, but with schools like Brown remember that almost all of the kids have amazing lists like that. Good luck!
