ok. well i have been plannin for a long time to get a motorcycle hopefully by my sophmore year of college. and its gonna take alot outa my budget to make paments on a bike most likely. well i had in mind me getting a 600cc bike, because for a first bike(i have no experience) people say i need a smaller engine. (btw im looking at sports bikes)

so i was looking at the honda cbr600rr

but now i started thinking 1000cc's dont cost that much more, could i really not handle it? what do people mean when they say you cant handle a 1000cc if you have no experience. is it the acceleration, or what? and would it be to big, i am about 5'9, 140 pounds. im expecting to grow, im getting the bike in 4 years

  1. When i first started riding i was looking at many bikes.  i still own my original gsx-r 600 suzuki.  i have been on my fair share of bikes since purchasing this and have found a great difference between the 600s and the 1000s.  an inch more throttle between the two can literally mean a difference of 20mph.  granted that is not a lot but its a difference when you are not an experienced rider.  after 4 years a 600 (for me) is still plenty.  the acceleration is potent and the handling is better than a 1000 due to the ability to keep it open longer.

personally the real question i would as if i was you is, "is a 1000 really necessary".  if you honestly think yes then i would argue you are buying a bike for the wrong reason.  the only reason why a bike with this power is necessary for a first time rider is due to the lack of experience and the lust for more power.

could you handle it?  it depends on how mature you really are and that i do not know.  However keep in mind that the very first time you decide to let your ego trump the bike or you lose respect for the power below you it will cost you on any bike, not just a 1000.

  2. first off the 1000 has higher acceleration and top speed also heavier. It can get you killed, you can't afford to make a mistake while learning to ride!!! The trottle is realy sensitive compared to the 600. They also have a suzuki 750 if your willing to take a chance. But my friend your in luck because I believe they have bike with cc control so you can switch when you feel ready. But will still be heavier. 600 is ideal for an everyday ride. It light, good on turns, and will give you the speed you need. I own a 2004 cbr 1000 and seen wong choices please think it over!

  3. If you have budget concerns, check how much the insurance will cost for each bike.

The cost rises expediently the larger the engine gets.
