1. Yes its possible to get out of it but its alot of pain and headache as for paperwork. Now I do know that once you get done with Basic and AIT, you can emidiately got full time Active Army. You just have to ask your unit commander to be released and go Active. As far as the recruiter retiring, you can always go back to the same place you got recruited from and ask for the station commander or the First Sergeant at that location. It would be hard to get into the Navy though i believe. But you sure can go Active and travel.

  2. When I joined the Air Force I was on the delayed entry program for 11 months. I had already signed on the dotted line and was just waiting for my departure date. While waiting I was called by the Army recruiter. After I told him I had signed up for the AF he told me that it meant nothing till the day I signed again when I was to actually depart for boot camp. This was supported by my AF recruiter. He told me that you could change your mind up till the day you signed on the departure day as the first signature was a sign of intent, not a full contract.

The sad part about the Army recruit was he kept trying to talk me out of the AF and to tell me about the Army. Several times I told him I was a man of my word and I will honor my agreement and nothing he could say would change that. I said that three times and he still wanted me to drop the AF and go in the Army. Talk about no respect among recruiters.

  3. Go talk to a navy recruiter and they should be able to help you out... might be some paperwork though

  4. I believe you have to be discharged by your Guard state's Adjutant General first. This is likely not going to happen. You need to get help from the Navy recruiter. If the Navy recruiter is not helping you, then they probably think it is a loosing proposition.

What state are you in right now? In Virginia, the Guard has a better than average relationship with the Navy. It may still be possible.
