  1. A 4 year old cockatiel is in the prime of his life :) I think if you give him a lot of motivation ie. lots of hugs, kisses, snuggling, positive reinforcement like that any bird would be willing to learn new things, its just a matter of time and the patience your willing to have with an older bird. Just continue to work with him with positive motivation and reward good behaviors or any attempt of good behaviors with rewards and ignore the ones you don't want. Also when using treats as rewards, switch off between treats and praise bc eventually the bird will learn just to the things you ask just for food :) I hope this helps and good luck with your little tiel :)))

p.s good for you for giving a shelter animal a good home:)

  2. hey send me some photos of it and maybe teach him}her

  3. Does the bird let you touch him in the cage? Will he sit on your finger, quietly, or does he shy away, or even bite or hiss at you. Will he allow you to  hand feed him sunflower seeds. Will he sit on your shoulder. Will he step up... when you ask him to.  These are the first steps I use, when working with birds.
