Question:

Could it be a household mold problem?

Well, my boyfriend and I both have been getting very sick lately, and we believe it is because of mold in his bedroom. He told me that they have found mold growing on his wall before, and we believe that there may be some in his carpet. His carpet is really gross and old. It is full of pet stains, and who knows what else (which he doesn't clean up very well). He has plans to take his carpet out in a few days.

Lately, we have been getting very sick. I am over at his house every day, and we've both had symptoms of breathing mold.

These are the symptoms from a website that matched my case:

Constant headaches

Breathing disorder (feels like my throat is smaller than it used to be.. Difficult to breathe at times, but usually towards the night - could also be from smoking but I think it could be either or.)

Nausea

Diarrhea

Loss of appetite

Weight loss

Chronic bronchits (Well, I don't have chronic, but I got it twice in the past 3 or 4 months - could also be from smoking)

Does this sound like a mold problem to you? Please help! I need opinions and/or your symptoms/story.

  1. Take up the carpet and invest in an air purifier, they have some at Wal-Mart that do not cost a whole of money. If it is mold, taking up the carpet will not cure the symptoms, but it will help to improve the overall quality of the air that you are breathing. You might have to have an expert come in and do a thorough investigation and determine if it is in fact mold( it sounds like it to me) If you do not have the money or insurance to have the problem corrected, you might want to check with Habitat for Humanity and see if they can help you with this. If he rents, show him the findings of the inspection and see what he is willing to do about this. If the landlord chooses to not do too much,Get on the phone and contact your local television stations, they have problem solvers who work at the station who can help you. There is a very good paint that seals the wall, keeps the mold from bleeding through the paint and cuts down on the odor of mold, it is called KILZ, you can buy it at LOWES Hardware Store.I know of these steps to take, I was renting in Dallas, Texas, we had mold, Black mold in every room of the house. I was getting migraines, bleeding in the sinuses, bronchitis, developed COPD . Good luck to you, I hope that your situation is resolved in an orderly, decent and timely fashion. I hope that this helps. Do not wait a long time to do this, mold is very serious, even fatal to some people.

  2. Absolutely, mold in the walls is a MAJOR problem. If it gets into the drywall, just putting bleach on the walls doesn't kill it. The whole wall has to be redone. Otherwise, you are poisoning yourselves.
