Could it be a painted turtle nest and what do I do with it?

I watched a painted turtle dig in my yard for about an hour today. Then it looked like it put dirt back in the hole. Is it a nest? If so, what should I do with it? It's in the middle of the yard. Direct sunlight, usually kind of dry. I was going to put a fence around it to keep out the other predators, but should I water it so it doesn't get too dry?

i'm sure the mother turtle knew what she was doing. just leave it alone.

Fences are fine but don't water it.
