Question:

Could it simply be the discs?

My DVD Recorder has always been fantastic with burning discs...no problems at all. I always use burnable DVD discs from the brand of my local supermarket, Tesco.

However, not too long ago, Tesco changed their type of burnable discs and ever since then, my DVD Recorder has been struggling to burn stuff onto that type of disc. Some discs work, but most of them end up getting screwed up and I need to chuck them out. I've never tried any other brands of burnable DVD discs yet, so I'm going to do so before deciding my DVD recorder has a problem.

Has anyone else ever experienced problems burning on certain brands of discs, but found that others work no problem?

PS, I'm using the correct disc for my DVD recorder, but it's like my machine just can't cope with Tesco's brand of burnable disc. At first, it reads fine, but then it seems to get stuck and can't read anything afterwards. But, it plays normal discs like movies and stuff no problem.

  1. It probably is the disks.

That is a common problem - maybe Tesco went to a cheaper disk.  You will just need to experiment with some other brands.

I have had good reliability with Memorex and Sony DVD-R's.
