Could love be affecting Rory McIlroy's game?
Rory McIlroy is considered to be one of the best golfers in the world. He is the young golf sensation who has made a big name for himself in a very little time.
He is just 23 years old and has already been on the number one position in the world golf ranking. Currently, he is at number 2 in the official golf ranking.
McIlroy has played very consistently and has been very passionate about his game. Unfortunately, he appears distracted from his path and his concentration from golf is gone.
It seems like that the 23-year-old has lost the love he once had for the game. Currently, he is in pursuit of a new goal – that goal being the Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. His recent performances have not been up to the mark.
McIlroy has not been able to finish in the top-20 positions in any major this year. He has also missed four out of his last six cuts.
On McIlroy’s current situation, his fellow golfer, Luke Donald, commented, “I remember when I was 23 and had an attractive girlfriend. I would take my eye off the ball sometimes, as well. You can't blame him”.
Donald emphasized that this is only natural and it is not McIlroy’s fault. A player can concentrate on either one of the things and he has a choice to make.
In the new couple, not only McIlroy is suffering but the tennis player, Caroline Wozniacki has also suffered a bit. When these two started dating, the girl was on number one of the women’s tennis rating. Currently she has fallen down to the eighth position.
"Obviously I'm aware of what's in the media," McIlroy said recently. "It's just a matter of not letting it get to you. I've always said that if I'm happy and content off the course, that's when I play my best golf".
McIlroy seems sure about what he is doing. Nonetheless, at the moment, it seems like that the Irish professional golfer can concentrate on only one thing. Now, he needs to make the decision, whether he wants his game or his companion.
