My band is basically uber-competitive, and I thought that if we had a bunch of those kinds of bands, could it happen?

Just a thought.

  1. If a host nation wanted to enter it as a demonstration sport, they could and then it would be eligible to be voted on as a permanent sport. But It has to meet certain criteria first, like having an international governing body (like FIFA is for Soccer), and be played in a certain number of countries, etc...

Not every competitive activity, nor every sport for that matter makes the Olympics. Sepak Takra is played in more than a dozen countries in Asia but is not in the Olympics, Baseball and Softball just got dropped by the Olympics so they won't be played at the 2012 Olympics. Likewise Darts, Billiards and Paintball aren't Olympics sports either.

  2. Considering very, very few countries (in fact I can only think of one country) are involved with marching bands, as an event, it wouldn't have many entrants.

  3. i don't think so, its more of a competition/hobby. not really a sport.

  4. Well ping pong and badminton are in there so I wouldn't rule it out.

  5. Uh no, that is just ridiculous.

  6. I think it would be a quite expensive sport, you will have to give 100 medals out.

  7. its similar to pipe bands and ensembles which compete however it will never become an Olympic sport as it its self is not a sport it is a hobby , it  can not be judged physically like weightlifting, diving or running more so musically and ascetically, with the Olympics strict tradition and policy it is highly unlikely that it will become an Olympics sport especially when sport such as softball are being excluded,
