  1. Yes they could be.  My son has severe pollen allergies and used to break out in hives in the spring and summer.  Do not assume that you are allergic to your cat either.  You need to see an allergist and get tested.  Many people do not bother to get tested since claritan and zyrtec are now available over the counter.  But it is very important to know what you are allergic you, you can then avoid or prepare for situations where you know allergens are present.

For example, if you are allergic to dust mites then you may need to get dust covers for your mattress and pillows to decrease your exposure and get a HEPA vacuum cleaner, etc.  If you are allergic to your cat, you could take medications, wash your cat regularly, and clean religiously or find another home for your cat.

Without knowing, you could end up over medicating yourself with over the counter medications or not addressing the problem sufficiently.

  2. Try taking an anti-inflammatory drug for allergies and see if the bumps go away within a day.  It is probably not a bite if they do go away quick.  It sounds a lot like an allergic reaction.  Good luck.

Edit: If you are being bitten indoors from something off the cat it could be fleas.

  3. They probably are.   You should see a doctor to have yourself tested.

  4. It is possible that they are. An awful lot of people are complaining of odd bumps and rashes at the moment, myself included. I thought I was allergic to the brand of hair colour that I use.......but who knows what is causing all the bother

You could take an antihistamine. Piriton works for me and it is quite mild. You could also get Front Line for your cat....just in case your problem stems from there. Front Line prevents fleas and mites from bothering the cat. You will get that at the Vets or in some pet shops.
