Question:

Could my 4yo have a bladder infection?

My daughter just 2 days ago started saying that she dosen't want to go pee on the toilet because her pee-pee hurts when she goes. She went almost the whole day without going then had an accident right outside the bathroom (she has been pull-up free for about 1yr). She did that again today. Her urine does not smell funny or have a strange color and she has no fever. It sounds like a bladder infection to me but I did not think that she could get one so young. I am taking her to the doctor tomorrow. Thanks.

  1. It sounds like a urinary tract or bladder infection to me. They are more common this time of year when it's hot, because dehydration can bring on an infection. I used to get them often when I was around the same age. Try to push the fluids (if she won't drink, give her popsicles, jell-o, watery fruits like watermelon or grapes) and expect her to have a few more accidents if she's trying to hold it. Pouring warm water over her vaginal area while she's trying to go can sometimes take away a bit of the pain, at least enough so that she can urinate. Poor kid.
