Question:

Could my dog be in heat or pregnant?

My peekapoo dog is a year old and I don't think she has been in heat yet. I let her out on a leash to go to the BATHROOM OFTEN UNSUPERVISED BECAUSE SHE WON"T GO IF SOMEONE IS watching, but she is usually out and right back in. I don't normally see unleashed dogs around. However, her nipples seem to be hanging down more. Could this be a sign of her approaching heat or pregnancy? She seems to be acting pretty normal.

  1. Well, if her nipples are getting bigger then she might be pregnant. You should go to the vet to she if she is just in case.

  2. Well your dog has to be in heat first ususally to get pregnant but ennlargment of the nipples is asign of pregnany. I wuld take herr to a vet though.

  3. Well first let me say you are brave to ask this question here at yahoo because they are mean especially to people who don't spay their dogs and had a accident like you did. Let me say i am a breeder and that is a sign of a pregnant *****. Also watch out for false pregnancies.

Just check out this website http://whelpingshihtzus.synthasite.com it is GREAT to learn the signs and have a couple of pics read it and learn more! it helped me and others on yahoo!

by the way where are you from?

Good luck and I hope you find good homes I repeat good homes for the pups when they are born!

  4. Descending nipples tend to mean pregnancy.  Has she been acting differently (ie, a little lazy or lethargic, eating more, sleeping more, nesting type activity)?  I would take her to the vet just in case.  You never know, she could have some kind of medical problem (like infected mammary glands).  If you don't want the puppies you can try to abort the babies and get her fixed at the same time (if you catch her early enough).  Dogs go into heat at about 6 months, so her symptoms may have been light enough that you didn't notice.

  5. I ti shard to tell sometimes so I am just going to recommend a book and also someone else recommended already a website.  But the book is this

Breeding a Litter prenatal and postnatal care

    http://tinyurl.com/5kcnmk

It is good even if you are not breeding because it covers some of the things for female dogs that you need to know... check it out.
