  1. I don't think there is anything you can do to stop it. It is very common for new mothers to lose a LOT of hair. The reason is because while we're pregnant our normal hair loss completely stops (losing an average of 100 hairs a day is normal), and then when we have our perfect little babies our hair that WOULD have fallen out if we hadn't been pregnant then falls out pretty much in clumps. I had never heard of this when I had my first son, so I was scared to death that I was going bald. It grew back when my baby was 6 months old, but then a year later I had number 2 and it happened again.

  2. It's not from breastfeeding.  It's from the pregnancy.  You should continue your prenatals (or other multi vitamin) for a while!

  3. it could also be from stress.

  4. Some women face hair fall post pregnancy due to hormonal changes.

  5. That's completely normal.  I'm going through the same thing right now.  I read that it's because when you are pregnant you don't lose much hair at all and after you give birth your chemistry changes and causes all the hair you would have lost during the course of your pregnancy to fall out.  That's why pregnant women usually have full, healthy hair.  Don't worry.  You wont go bald but it can take up to a year for things to go back to normal.

  6. If you had drugs during the delivery of your baby it could be the after effects of the drugs.  That is quite common.  It happened with all three of my children.

Within a few months, when all of the drugs are out of your system, your hair will go back to normal and stop falling out.

If you're worried about it, next time you see your doctor ask her about it.

Your hair loss has nothing to do with breast feeding.

  7. Normally a person looses so many strands of hair a day.  While you are pregnant, hormones decreases this number.  Now that you have had the baby and your body is returning to "normal" it is making up for lost time, and you are losing the hair you should have lost all along.  Don't worry you won't go bald, and eventually you will stop losing so much hair.

  8. I too am a breastfeeding momma.

I also have the same problem with my hair falling out.

I asked the same question a while back.

    SO....

I will tell you what I was told.

Yes it is normal for your hair to fall out.

My son is 5 months old and I feel like I can donate a wig every time I take a bath or brush my hair and see a butt load of hair fall out!!

It is just from where your body is going back to normal... or to as normal it is going to get.

Your hair and nails grew like crazy while you were pregnant and now that you don't have all that extra hormones in your body any more, you will begin to loose all the hair that was suppose to fall out but never did.

It just falls out all at once now.

    I know.... it sucks!!

But also.... stress can do that to you.

If you have a lot of worries on your mind, that could contribute to your hair loss as well.

Good luck and I hope that all goes well for you...

  9. Well i never heard of that..It didnt happen with my son.I would ask your prenatal doctor since they went thru the whole pregnancy with you.But im almost positive it is not from breastfeeding. That has not one thing to do with your hair.

  10. your pregnancy hormones caused your hair to grow -not the vitamins.  since you no longer produce the hormones, your hair if falling out.  if you are still concerned, see your doctor.
