Question:

Could my kitten have a cold?

My 4 month old kitten is occasionally sneezing and seems to have the sniffles when he breathes through his nose. He also seems to be sleeping a bit more then usual. I also felt his nose and it's dry to the touch but I'm not sure if that's good or bad (I've seen info on it being both). However he's still eating and drinking and doesn't appear to be dehydrated (I did the pinch the back of the neck test to check). He's also still running around playing with his sister chasing her and wrestling with her.

Do I need to be worried or does he probably just have a cold that will go away in a week or two on it's own? Also is there anything that I can do to make him feel better? My husband thinks I'm just being overly concerned but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

  1. yes he could be sick

  2. no colds with not go away on their own, their is no substitute in a herbal shop or a pet store for a cat with cold.your kitten needs proper antibiotics from the vet..i took mine monday after 3 days of cold and runny nose, unfortunately she had a tumor too and the vet gave her injection for cold and i was to take her back tuesday,by the time i got home from vets at 7.10 she died 10 Min's later..please don't take a risk with your kitten,i know my cat was 15 and had a wonderful life but if the tumor didn't kill her the cold would have without the right treatment.

sneezing is generally associated with respiratory infections, sneezing is a reflex action brought on by irritation in the nasal passage,

has the kitten nasal discharge,if so it probably has an infection of the nostrils or sinuses.

are any cold or flu signs present,IE fever, breathing problems, nasal or eye discharge,or coughing.

possible causes for these are bacterial or fungal infection, viral decease, allergies or a nasal tumor.

take the kitten to the vets, but in the mean time keep him warm but in a well ventilated room

  3. This could be the start of an infection. Go ahead and get him to a vet before it gets worse.  These infections are highly contagious so if he has one, you can bet your other will have it too. Only a vet can tell you for sure, so don't take our word for it, have the vet take a look.

  4. Cats can get colds and they usually go away just fine. I'd say monitor the cat and take him, well both, to the vet to make sure it's nothing more serious.
