  1. My understanding is that large breeds have lots of potential problems in birthing let alone the certifications for health that are needed because of hips etc.

If you haven't already considered all the costs associated and if your dog is indeed pregnant then get a credit card and freeze it for future emergency bills... having pups is not cheap. not meant as rude just had a hard year with finances and parvo hitting two litters.

I want to recommend a book to you as it is good for learning about stuff like this.

  2. I am sure she could be pregnant. why do yo want her to have 1 litter? It is safer go get her spayed and abort the puppies if she is.

  3. if she gets aggressive towards him or runs from him most likely she is

  4. get her spayed, the world doesn't need any more unwanted dogs.

  5. Not going to get at you for mating her.  But if she is in whelp, and as you have no experience.  You really should get in touch with an experienced St Bernard breeder, to help you through the next 4 - 5 months.  Giant breeds have  needs all their own, when it comes to having and rearing pups.

If your dog has not been used at stud, he may not know exactly what to do, if you wanted a mating you should have been there to help him.  His instinct will tell him to mount the bi tch, but if she did not stand, or turned on him because she was not ready, or nervous herself, it could put him off.   And often a bi tch will not stand for a dog she knows to well.  You should have someone to hold her when you help him.  If this is her 19th day and there has been no mating, she will be passed by now anyway.

  6. SHE IS FOUR AND NOT SPAYED YET?

  7. I am sorry,  I have made several attempts to answer your question but I cannot keep a civil tongue.

I hope that your breeding attempt failed & she is not pregnant.

You do not know enough about breeding to do it right.

Genetics play a major roll in breeding & you never said whether or not they have won titles through competition.  If they have not how do you know they are breed worthy to breed?

I have had to temper this way down cause what you are trying to do without educating your self is just plain wrong.  Are you prepared for any & everything to go wrong.  Are you prepared for a large litter the may not be healthy?  Are you prepared to put pups down that aren't.

I am sorry this is not the answer you want but you are not prepared for any of this.

Pet quality dogs need to be spayed & neutered.

As a groomer I saw many dogs that were so messed up genetically that they were pathetic.   Very poor conformation, poor coat quality, stop out of wack, ear sets all off set,  eyes set in the head all wrong.  Over bites, under bites, gaits all messed up due to the poor conformation.  Mal shaped heads.....and the list goes on & on.

Don't you want to have some nice quality pups?  Or do you care as long as she has a litter?

I really do hope the pregnancy did not take so you will have some time to do some more research.

  8. SPAY / NEUTER YOUR DOGS!

why do we need more unwanted dogs in this world?!

unless you have a solid plan and know that every single puppy will be adopted and kept in that home forever, pleasee don't just let two dogs go at it carelessly

  9. Well if you don't know, how are we supposed to know? We weren't in the room either, we didn't see if they tied or not!

You'll have to wait about 3-4 weeks then have an ultrasound at the vets to see if she's pregnant. Ring them now and see when they'll ultrasound or xray to check for pregnancy.

I do second what other people have said - it would be better to get her spayed. You obviously don't know what you're doing and anyway, in the current climate I can't really support breeders of any kind.

If you insist on letting her have a litter, do two thing: a) spay her once the litter is weaned b) Get proper advice from a vet on care of a pregnant dog, whelping and raising young puppies so you don't end up asking the common question on here "HELP my dog's in labour what do I do"

  10. ..are you nuts?! You never EVER leave two dogs unsupervised while mating to prevent either of them being hurt. It clear you don't know what you are doing. Go and take your ***** and have her spayed and have your male fixed. She does NOT need to have just one litter. It won't do her any good.

Quit thinking about your own selfish needs and think about your animals.

  11. take her for an ultra-sound scan and make sure the litter (if she has one) have good fixed homes!!

  12. She could be but leave them in a room for about an hour or something  good luck with the litter if she has any x

  13. Sure, she could unfortunately be pregnant.

Why would you "love" for her to have one litter?  That's irresponsible and frankly, immoral.

Bring her to the vet.  Get her spayed and get your male neutered.  You really don't seem like you should be breeding animals of any sort.
