Could naming a character Kitty have any sexual connotations?

Im analyzing the book The Hours and I'm talking about how both Virginia and Laura experience repressed sexual desires for women and how, in Laura's case, this is manifested through her kiss with her neighbour Kitty so I'm just wondering if there could be any connotations to that name or if there could have been a specific reason for the author to have named her this way? I read that in old english the name was associated with prostitutes but it's also short for katherine...I'm probably looking way too much into this but thanks for any ideas

  1. I think Kitty is just an antiquated nickname for Katherine.  Modern readers look for some kind of sexual connotation because it's simply not the kind of nickname we hear anymore.  I just finished reading Anna Karenina and one of the main characters is called Kitty, and I believe she is supposed to represent purity more than promiscuity.  Basically, I don't think the name Kitty is supposed to have sexual connotations.
