Question:

Could only 4 or 5 hours sleep have stunted my growth?

I only slept for about 4 or 5 hours a day for half a year? Will this stunt my growth? I think I did it during my growth spurt.

(I already stopped sleeping 4 or 5 hours, by the way)

Here's some info about my height:

I'm 178 cm (5'10"). My father is 186 cm (around 6'1") and my mom 168 cm (around 5'6"). I don't seem to have grown much the past months.

How much Inches (cm) could I have lost by not sleeping much?

Or should I not worry about it?

(PS. my father thinks I will become something around 190 cm, is that possible?)

Please, I only want answers if you really know something about it.

(PPS. Please don't come with "5'10" is big enough. I live in the Netherlands, where the average is 6'1")

(PPPS. I don't sport that much.)

  1. as a teenager, sleeping for so few hours won't be helping you. scientists have recommended 9hr sleep for teenagers. though this is the average mind you. so i guess as long as you don't feel tired you should be fine. however, if you feel constantly sleep deprived then you are definitely not getting enough sleep. as for growth that usually occurs in spurts so don't worry about it. i knew some kids who were realy short when around your age but grew up real quick about 14/15yo and ended up being taller than me. so don't worry about it.

  2. how old are you?  from the information at hand, it seems you are splitting the difference between the heights of your parents.  my growth spurts were come and go, come and go.  Until I was about 19 or 20 actually.  depending on your age you still have time to catch up, and while I don't know for sure, I've never heard of lack of sleep causing stunted growth.
