Question:

Could our kitty be blind??

Hi

I have a kitten, he's about 4 1/2 months old by now, a Persian/Tabby cross. We think he has seeing problems because when he jumps onto things he misses by a long shot and ends up falling on his stomach (whoever said cats always landed on their feet was wrong). I have a bad eye, and he turns his head while watching a toy the same way I do when I'm having trouble seeing something. Plus he is constantly squinting the "bad" eye. So we're wondering...could he be blond in one eye, or just a little uncoordinated (when he jumps and misses) And even if he is blind, if we took him to to the vet what would they do? Give him glasses? (LOL) So does this sound like something the bet should see?

Sorry I wrote so much and thanks for answering...if anyone answers.

  1. Kittens are not as coordinated as adult cats, so it's not surprising that he may misjudge distances when jumping. . . after all, practice makes perfect!

However, if he's squinting one eye, then there is probably a medical issue.  It could be as simple as an infection, in which case the vet would give him an antibiotic ointment or drop.  Could also be a mildly scratched cornea or a torn retina.

Time to take him to a vet, just to rule out anything that may become more serious and permanently jeopardize his sight.

  2. I think you should take the kitten to the vet and have them check it. If it keeps squinting the suspicious eye, I would suspect that he is blond in one eye. I think that it is possible to cure it. (I'm not 100% sure.) I wish good luck to your 4 1/2 month old kitten.
