Could parakeets pick up mites from branches?

Is it possible for parakeets to get mites from a branch you brought from outside, And you put it inside his cage for a perch?

if not what causes mites???????

  1. Yes, it is possible to bring in a lot of different types of crawly things when you bring branches into the house.  That's why its not recommended a lot.  Any branch you bring in should be put in the oven at 200 degrees for several hours to kill any thing that may be living on the branch and under the bark.  Make sure it comes from a tree or bush that is not harmful to your bird. Mites and bacteria can also come from cages that are not kept clean.  Please read my profile.


  2. probably because wild birds use it then the mites could fall off and get it,I wouldn't reccommend bringing branches in the house with out dumping some like boiling water on them all over or something possibly sending them through the dish washer? to eliminate risks of diseases

  3. Yes i think is posible to get mites from branches!!!

    If ur parakeet got Mites go to a petshop like pet smart ect!!! and get ULTRACARE is a bird spray that  kills and prevents from getting on ur parakeet  mite's and lice's!!!! good luck bye!!!

  4. they could.if your birds are in an avairy and you see one with his head tucked in that can be a sign of mites,they suck the blood and if you are not observent you can loose a lot of birds quick.good thing is the are easy to get rid of go to the store and get mite spray and spray your birds
