  1. No, as far as I know you need a good filtration system.

"Time to call the Culligan Man".

The bleach would not go into the well to chlorinate the water. It would only go into you septic tank.

There is also special salt to put in the water tank, but I think that's for high iron content. Just call a professional well service or Culligan and ask them

  2. no. you will need at least a carbon filter installed. if your porcelain is stained a rust color you would also want a sediment filter. this is just an example of what I would install in the line before it goes into the house. if it's really bad you might be changing 1 filter a month, different times of the year. so a easy to get to location would be ideal. a handy man could do this.

    example:

    Kenmore 2-Stage Drinking Water Filter

    Sears item #04238461000

  3. If you have well water then you have a septic system. The drain empties waste water into the septic system.

If your water smells bad, that would have nothing to do with the septic system. If it is coming from the drain however then it might.

I'd have the water tested at your county extension office as water with a foul odor is a potential health concern. If it checks out OK, you need to install a whole house water filter. This will eliminate the smell as well as a large number of other contaminates.

Definitely don't pour something like a bottle of bleach into your drain as this will only destroy the bacteria that keeps your septic system breaking down human waste, etc.

  4. The sulfur smell is not harmful, but aggravating.  I put in a whole house filter and that fixed it.  Check for prices, tho' as they vary a good deal.

  5. it would temporarily fix the problem yes....you would have to pour some down the drain every so often to keep the smell away.

  6. If poring bleach down the drain effects the smell of the water coming out of the tap, you have bigger problems than the sulfur smell.

  7. If your on a septic system you do not want to pour bleach down your drain it can cause break down problems and mess up your drain field. You should go on to the county or health department web site and look up the do's and don'ts of wells and septics.
