I'm visiting London in Nov. However, I am having hard time to search for a decent hotel to stay. I have never been to London, I would like to know what areas should I be searching for. I am looking for a location which is centrally located. Easy to travel to difference attractions, convenience transportation to places. Please recommend me some areas or neighborhoods.

  1. I disagree with the person suggesting County Hall. Might be great for day time or when  the Eurostar was arriving in Waterloo...but I would not recommending the area if you plan to come back to your hotel room in the evening.

I would suggest you go there:

Select London, and then among the hotel result, you've got:

"Show hotels near", Scroll down (down) and select Popular area: Piccadilly Circus (don't worry, you won't be staying in the dirty noisy part of the West End), but it will give you a nice selection of hotels which are walking distance from everything including central line (nice to go to Liverpool street and get the stansted express to the airport) and the piccadilly line for Heathrow or even King's Cross for Gatwick.

Hotels like The St Gilles (Midrange)behind the dominion theatre y very affordable and conveniently located for everything.

The Strand Palace (upper midrange) hotel is a short walk from the London Eye and Waterloo Bridge but the Right side of the river ! :)

Going a bit higher price, Number one Aldwych or the Waldorf Hilton are also very conveniently located to access the Sommerset house, covent garden, and not too far from Trafagar Square or even Russel Square (British Museum)

Wishing you a lovely stay, and I hope I've helped :)

  2. it's difficult to answer your question because London is a big place and there's hundreds of hotels all over the place ... however the Bloomsbury area is within easy reach of several tube stations (Euston, Kings Cross, St Pancras, Russel Square, Holborn)

what I'd suggest you do is get the postcode for the hotel, enter it into www.multimap.com and it will show you on the map where it is ... as long as you're fairly near to a tube station you're OK

you could look at the routes of the open top double decker sightseeing buses on the www.theoriginaltour.com or www.bigbustours.com to get an idea of where things are that you would like to be near to

    there's the tube map at

  3. County Hall. 10 minute (or less) walk from Water Loo station. There is a place called the Premiere Inn there. Great prices, clean rooms and bathrooms. I was very impressed. Better yet, it's right next to the London Eye. And walk around the corner to your left is the Big Ben. There are nice restraunts if you need, and a grocery store right across from the Inn.

  4. London is divided into 6 transport zones. Zone 1 is central london and is also where most of the main attractions are. it would be best to get a hotel in that area. Or at least zone 2. Almost EVERYTHING will be in these 2 zones. What you get depends on your budget really... but you can't go wrong with these zones if you want to experience the best of London life.

Good luck, have a great time.
