I want to make some videos with green screen. Please answer all of the questions below.

#1 Could I use a bed sheet as a green screen?

#2 Is a plastic green screen just as good as a muslin green screen. Please explain why.

#3 What are any other cheap ways I could make a green screen for under 30 dollars.

#4 How would I get the video from my video camera to my computer? My video camera doesn't have an SD card slot or USB port. It was purchased in 2003.

#5 Would overhead lighting and natural light be enough light?

Please answer all of them and it is very appreciated!

  1. #1 Possibly, although you'll likely get shadows where the creases are if its not held smooth. A large flat wall (or maybe painted cardboard) might be easier to work with.

The colour green is commonly used because you can usually remove it without removing anything else in the scene (it is absent from skin colour). You wouldn't want the foreground object to have any of the background colour in it, for instance.

    #2 Not sure

#3 The wall is really the best.

#4 Use a video capture card to digitize it. These are relatively inexpensive. You could probably check ebay or a site like kijiji for a used one as they've been around for a while now

#5 Typically you want to light the green screen with a different light source than what's in front so that you don't get any shadows or interaction (which will turn into strobey fuzz when you key out the background)

  2. #1.  Yes, if it was the right shade of green.

#2.  I bought a portable green screen from B&H Photo for under $100.  They are on line.  Anyway it could be folded up (sort of) and then set up really fast, because it was completely attached to a plastic hoop wich acted as it's frame.  I don't know what kind of material it was made from, it was like windbreaker material.

#3. You can get a can of green screen paint and paint a studio wall.

#4.  It's time to upgrade, or borrow.

#5.  If the green screen isn't lit good and evenly, it won't work right.  You will end up with areas that won't key out .

  3. You don't even need to use the color green... yo u can use a large BURGUNDY bedsheet if you want or a blue one.. it doesn't matter.. as long as you use that channel to block out in your video editor.
