Question:

Could someone explain how BMX became an Olympic sport.?

I imagine that they brought in BMX, just like snowboarding in the winter olympics, because they think it might appeal to a younger audience. But honestly it is rediculous having BMX as an Olympic sport. Would love to know which IOC countries voted to allow this sport to enter the olympics.

  1. Somebody flipped their bike too many times.

  2. No I really can't I am as confused as you are.

  3. I assume because they are getting rid of baseball and softball they needed a new sport to replace the ones being taken off so I guess they brought in BMX to introduce it now and for 2012. Besides i love BMX I like to watch people fall and bust their butts.

  4. Because the audience wanted it. With the popularity of the X Games on ESPN it wasn't that difficult of a decision to make. Same as with the Winter olympics events in the 'half pipe'

Mountain biking was once in the Olympics but it wasn't as popular as BMX.

    Good question.

    Hope this helps.

    Enjoy!

  5. How is it a sport, but they're throwing Baseball out?

  6. I don't understand.. why is it ridiculous to have BMX racing in the Olympics? Its a sport, where the individuals skill level determines the outcome of a race....

  7. what does everybody mean i cant understand it?

do u not understand how hard it is? im pretty sure if ping pong can be an olympic sport than bmx surely can? like wtf?

also if they have a sport "the walk" ? umm its just a lazier version of running? whats next the stroll?

  8. Simple really, they applied for entry, which any sport can do and the application was accepted as with softball etc., a few years ago !
