I am confused...is it that players acquired after the deadline can't play in the playoffs? Like the D-backs just getting Dunn and Redsox getting Byrd?

Thank you.

  1. basically it is just a date when u can't trade anybody on your team any more until the next season

  2. The July 31st is the non-waiver trade deadline, all players traded before the real deadline of August 31st have to clear waivers before they can be traded.  To play in the playoffs you have to be on the roster by September 1st, meaning all the minor league call-ups on September 1st are eligible for post season play.

  3. The non waiver deadline is July 31...before which players can be traded freely. After that, is the wavier trade period. Players can passed through waivers and still be traded. When waived, other teams can claim them (based on standings), if claimed the original team can rescind the waiver and take him back, trade the player to claiming team, or release him outright to the claiming team. If the player passes without being claimed, he can be traded.

  4. Trade Waivers....its hard to explain...someone will say idk i guess look it up....."trade waivers"

  5. No the players obtained after the trade deadline can participate in the playoffs. They have to go through waivers which any team can block that move if they wish. Which means other teams have a chance to make the trade.

  6. Actually, one of the other posters is a day off. A player must be on a team's roster by August 31st in order to qualify for that team's post season roster. September 1 is the day rosters expand to 40 players.
