  1. The derivative is 3x^2 - 4.

    This is zero when x = +/- sqrt(4 / 3).

    The second derivative is 6x.

    When x = sqrt(4 / 3), 6x > 0 indicating a minimum.

    When x = - sqrt(4 / 3). 6x < 0 indicating a maximum.
