Could someone give me a basic definition of translation - in relation to genetics biology?

  1. I'll try... You got DNA in the nucleus... a part of the DNA which codes for a specific protein (lets say an enzyme) that gets "copied" or "blueprinted" into a (messenger) m-RNA (which leaves the nucleus), which then again gets TRANSLATED into the specific polypeptide (in this case an enzyme) in the cytoplasm. So m-RNA is the template that travels from the nucleus to the cytoplasm to tell ribosomes how to make the polypeptide, while the DNA (the cook book) stays in the nucleus.
