My dad's side gave me about 1/16 Cherokee (father side) and 1/64 Cherokee (his mom's side) and from my mom's side I got about 1/16 Cherokee and 1/16 Navajo and a little bit of distant Apache from my (believed to be anyway) GGG or GGGG grandmother. How much do I have altogether.

  1. I hated history when I was in school, now I love it, due to genealogy.  For your thing, you fall back on the old common denominator thing.  Add your 16ths.. 3/16ths is the same as 12/64ths, now add the 1/64th, and you have 13/64ths.  I won't add the distant Apache if you don't have a known amount.

Don't ask me to translate that to a percentage. I still hate math.

  2. not counting the apache you would be about 5% native.

To find percentages you add the two fractions and then divide by two.

You got 6% from your fathers father

you got 1% from your fathers mother

    1/16=.06

    1/64=.01

    6+1=7

    7/2=3.5  your father is 3.5%

I'm assuming you got the two 1/16's from each side of your mothers parents making her 6% (add the two 1/16's and divide by two)

so you got 6% from your mother and 3.5% from your father. Add those two together giving you 9.5  then divide by two and that will give you a percentage of 4.75

  3. Think that makes you 1/12 Indian of different tribes not counting that distant Apache that you're not sure about. From what I understand you need to be 1/8 Cherokee to get anything from the tribe, I am 1/8 Cherokee, but never bothered to get anything from them, my relatives come from near Coffeeville, Kansas. How I arrived at this is 3/16 + 1/64=16/192=1/12 this is correct math.

  4. To finish up what Wendy started.........if I did my math right, that comes to nearly 20% or 1/5th (more or less.  off by just a hair).
