1) A cow is attached to a rope in a pasture bordered by two fences (each 60 ft long) which meet at an angle of 24 degrees. If the rope attached to the cow is 15 ft long, over how many square feet can the cow graze?

2) In a summer camp it is found that a quart of milk is consumed by 4 campers or 3 counselors. If 16 quarts of milk are brought into the dining room to feed 40 campers and 12 counselors, how many quarts of milk should be returned after the milk?

  1. 1)    Where is the cow rope tethered?

    2)  .............returned after the milk?

        Anyway,  40 campers will consume       40/4  or 10 quarts.

                       12 counselors will consume   15/3  or  5 quarts

                     10 + 5 =  15 quarts consumed

                      returned after the....milk!     =  2  quarts

  2. 1)

    Total Area:

    A=pi r^2

    A=60^2 pi

    A=3600 pi

    Unreachable Area:

    A=(24/360)60^2 pi

    A=240 pi

    Grazeable Area:

    A=3600 pi-240 pi

    A=3360 pi

    2)40 capmers /4 = 10 quarts

    12 councelers /3 = 4 quarts

    16-14=2 quarts left over

  3. 1 I assume the rope is attached a the intersection of the two fences?  If so then you can draw an arc that is 24 degrees across with a radius of 15 ft and that is the area.  If the cow is anchored somwhere else I don't think you can really answer the question since you don't have enough info.  Area in the arc woud be =R*Angle (in radians).  There are 2PI Radians in 360 degrees so the area would be = 15* 2*PI/360*24

    2) So the amount used by campers is 40/4 = 10 quarts

    Counselors = 12/3 = 4 quarts

    So total consumed woudl be 14 quarts, leving 2 left over
