  1. Found the same question on yahoo answers.  Check it out!

  2. Just covert the 75 seconds to hours in decimal form (fractions work too but decimals are easier) and also convert 500 feet to miles (easier in decimal as well) and divide the miles number and the hours numbers. And then put it into 2 significant digits. I don't have a calculator to work it out on right now but you should be able to calculate it and then use the significant digits rules which you can find here: http://dbhs.wvusd.k12.ca.us/webdocs/SigF...

  3. theree are 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour. therefore there are 3600 seconds in an hour. in a second the elevator travels 500/75 miles or 6 and 2/3 miles. multiply 500/75 by 3600 to get the amount of miles in an hour. the answer you get is 24000.

  4. First convert your feet to miles: you know that there are 5280 feet in a mile; therefore to find how many miles 500 feet is simply divide 500 by 5280 (500/5280) to get 0.094696 miles. Now, we know that we traveled that distance in 75 seconds, which is equal to 1.25 minutes (75/60) which is equal to 0.0208 hours (1.25/60). So to find the velocity (V) of the elevator we simply need the definition of velocity, which is Distance/Time (D/T) to set up the following equation:

    0.094696mi/0.0208hours=4.553 mi/h

So your answer would be 4.55 mi/h, but don't take my word for it, I might have made a mistake, work the problem yourself using the same form I just showed you.
