my history teacher brought up the Peace Corps the other day in class, he gave a very brief description about it but when he said it, it seems like something i would be interested in doing. i love to help people, especially those who are less fortunate and i've always really wanted to make a difference in the world, or at least help out a bit. so i was just wondering if someone who is/was in it or just knows some information about it, i'd love to hear form you. thanks to all who reply :)

  1. Good for you! The Peace Corps is a wonderful institution and the good work it does around the world is surpassed by none. You can find all the information on them at their website

    www.peacecorps.gov

There headquaters are located in Washington DC. Here is the address if you live in the area:

    1111 20th St. NW. Washington, DC 20526

    Good Luck!

  2. Please visit the web site. The PeaceCorps web site has tons of information about what it's like to be a PC member. Also, type this into Google:

    Peace Corps blogs

This will generate a long list of people who are blogging, or have blogged, about their experience as a PC.

If you want to be a PC someday, here is a web site that can help you get an idea of what this and other long-term placement organizations are looking for in candidates:

    http://www.coyotecommunications.com/volu...

(does anyone else wish that Yahoo!Answers would create a Frequently Asked Questions & Answers section for each branch?!?)

  3. Have you found the yahoo group, peacecorps2? It's really helpful. I'm not big on message boards, but I really enjoy this one. The message board is huge for asking and receiving and number of specific questions/answers. There is also a Files section that includes all sorts of "inside" info--the kid that you only see once you've gone through the process.  it's very helpful and often you can get info to questions you can't find on peacecorps.gov (which is also very helpful).

The link for this is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/peacecorps...

    Great source...

Also, check out some blogs. Just to make it easy, my blog is http://www.jcorps.blogspot.com . if you check that out, on the right side I have some PCV (peace corps volunteer) blog links that I found really really helpful when I was first trying to find more out about the PC

    Good luck!

  4. I was a PCV years ago. My daughter is one now. I have stories and pictures about my time:

My site has a link to the RPCV Web ring, too.

92% of all PCV's have a college degree. Hold on tight to your dreams, go to college and major in something useful.
