Objects A and B are both positively charged. Both have a mass of 119 g, but A has twice the charge of B. When A and B are placed 10 cm apart, B experiences an electric force of 0.50 N.

(a) How large is the force on A?

(b) What are the charges qA and qB?

(c) If the objects are released, what is the initial acceleration of A?

Any help would be appreciated thanks

  1. f=kq1q2/r^2

    q1=2q2

    a)  Force on A equals the force on b. 0.50 N

    The force is equal and opposite. Don't let the charges throw you off the track.

    b) 0.50=8.99e9(3*q2)/(10*10-2)^2

    Solve for q2 and you get q2=5.56e-13

    therefore q1=1.11e-10

    c) f=ma

    a=f/m

    0.50/0.119= 4.20 m/s/s
