the acronym LOL means laughing out loud.

it's not actually used when people are laughing, anything that is supposed to be funny usually gets the response LOL.

e.g. >> hay sup dude?

>> kool, i hurt myself

if something's actually funny, usually it gets a rofl (rolling on floor laughing) or lmao (laughing my *** off), or sometimes even both fused together.
