  1. You can specialize and eliminate the treatments of cats by doing so.  A large animal vet doesn't treat dogs or cats...but mainly horses, cows and sheep, etc.  That would be a possibility and you wouldn't have to take any medication for allergies.

  2. Yes, just dont treat cats.

    Michael...

as a vet you can specialize in certain types of animals.

  3. The short answer is yes.

The long answer is that there are drugs that can be prescribed by a doctor to ease and treat the allergic reaction. These can help you through vet school and residency/internships. After that it is you choice on what types of animals to want to treat/what field you want to work in. For example general farm vets, equine vets, etc.

  4. in vet school you have to deal with every species of animal in every department, which means you'll have no choice but to touch cats, if you want to pass you exams. after that you can specialise in whatever field you wish to, as another poster suggested, allergy medication can help, it just depends on the severity.

  5. Funny you should mention that...I took 2 of my cats to the Vet's today for routine inoculations. The vet tech happen to mention that most of the vets in the practice had some kind of animal allergy. They just take allergy medications. So, long story short, yes, you can be a veterinarian despite cat allergies. Funny coincidence!

  6. If you get allergy shots and medicine maybe you will be able to tolerate them.
