  1. my daughter went to visit her grandma for about 4 days the summer before she turned 5 and came back tying her shoes, so i was lucky! in my preschool class, i had a couple of kids who were really close to tying shoes, so i had them practice on a shoe that was off of a foot. it's much easier for them to manipulate it when it's not on the foot.

keep in mind that many children don't have the motor skills to tie shoes until they are around 7, so don't push it too much! it helps to use shoelaces that are long enough and can really help to use two different color shoestrings.

Here's a cute rhyme for tying using two loops:

Build a tee pee, Come inside,

Bring a friend. Close it tight so we can hide.

Over the mountain, And around we go.

Here’s my arrow, And here’s my bow!

    and here's another rhyme:

Two snakes escaped from the zoo

And lived in the holes in my shoe!

In and out they twisted and fought,

‘til their tails were tied in a knot.

One snake put his neck in a loop!

But his friend wrapped him round in a hoop!

Pull me out! Pull me out!

Cried the snake with a shout

Through the hole pull me low!

    And what do you know?

    You’ve made a bow!

  2. I don't know the rhyme, but I'm sure someone will tell you.... With my son, I just told him a story about the rabbit going around the tree, and all that.  I just ad-libbed since I didn't remember the rhyme.  Good luck!  :)
