i was lookin at another question like this that said gravity was the fifth one.

he said u could escape each dimension by goin to the next dimension.

my theory combines with his theory.

he said gravity from a black hole would slow time (4D). But i remember from a paper on time travel that u could time travel by speeding rlly fast.

  1. 88 miles an hour can send you back to the future :)

  2. By going fast, you would age at a slower rate than people who were stationary.  However, you could only 'travel' one way...into the future.  This isn't really a new theory...Orson Scott Card, for example, incorporated this into his best selling 'Ender's Game' series.  The main character traveled the galaxy for 3,000 years and only aged about 20 years.

  3. 1. gravity is not the fifth dimension.

    2. a dimension is a way to describe a point in spacetime. gravity is not a way to describe that point, and neither is speed. speed is the combination of a linear dimension with the time dimension. thats it.

    3. yes, time reverses if you travel faster than light (relative to another observer), but you cant travel at or above the speed of light so it doesnt matter.

  4. The fellow who postulated that gravity is the fifth dimesion was wrong, and so was the paper you read about time travel.

  5. You don't escape dimensions.  You have to exist in all of them.

Can you somehow escape height and go into length or width?

Speed is adequately described within the dimensions we already have.

But you can do as Bruce says--slow down time relative to other observers by moving very quickly.  So you can go somewhere very fast, turn around and come back, have aged a few years, and find all your friends old or dead.
