Could synthetic motor oil be filtered and used as fuel oil in my Mercedes diesel engine,?

  1. You can use almost anything for fuel in a large Diesel engine, like the kind they use to run a ship.  Even vegetable oil works okay.  But the tiny high-speed Diesels used in automobiles have the world's most persnickety fuel systems, with tiny passages and weird pumps.  Thus you have to use official Diesel fuel of the sort approved by the manufacturer.  

    Which is a shame.  Once the stuff is inside the cylinder, it would probably burn just fine, though heaven only knows what sort of residue it might leave behind.


  2. I burn it at 10% blend to fuel, no higher.I filter it 6 times pre mixed with fuel,at 5 microns.

    I burn waste motor oils ( no antifreeze leaks),ATF, and WVO.

    I found that type F ATF will raise cetane levels for wvo.

  3. No,its not the same chemical makeup as Diesel fuel.

  4. No - motor oil cannot be broken down to fuel
