  1. Yes, those can be symptoms. What is waking you up though? Is it to go to the bathroom, maybe a noise you can no longer hear?

Try using a white noise to sleep by. Try a fan, or go get a 5 dollar machine out at walmart that makes diffrent white noises that you can use. See if that helps you sleep through the night.

Don't drink anything with caffeine in it for 3 hours before bedtime. Chocolate has caffeine in it, so none of that either.

As for not feeling refreshed, you are probably not getting enough REM sleep. Rapid Eye Movement. Which is condusive to feeling refreshed. It can also be sleep apneia and a few other things. You might want to find out what is causing this.

Caffeine can make you feel extremely tired throughout the day. It's a high, but only for awhile and the crash is worse than the high was good. Try going caffeine free for 1 full month and see if it doesn't help you with sleep. I did it and i felt great. My real energy came back, i started sleeping well and i stopped dragging so badly. The natural body has more energy than any caffeine can try to fake for you for a short period. And natural keeps you going for a full day, not just an hour or two.

Stop caffeine in all forms. Teas, coffee's, chocolate. Read all labels before buying it. It's worth a shot and i know how much it helped me in my life. It helped me in way more ways than just sleeping, but i wont' go into all of that. Also, get the white noise going. Get  your room nice and cool at night too, don't allow yourself to get hot or it can wake you up. If you are sweating, even lightly, than your room is too warm! Get it cooled in there. Make it so you want to keep a sheet on you so you'll be comfortable.

The white noise is a bit weird to get used too that first night, but within a week you won't want to sleep without it. It's awesome and blocks out all the noise from outside. Maybe a cat or racoon is coming around at night clunking around and waking you up? The white noise will drown it out. No hot showers or baths before bed either, wakes many people up. Take a shower or bath one hour before you get ready for bed!

No video games one hour before bed! They can make it difficult to sleep as your eyes and brain have to go on full function to play properly. Making it hard to slow down to sleep right afterwards. No exciting tv shows or phone calls either. Get off the computer one hour before bed time too. make the hour before bed a very relaxing one. But don't go into your room until you are ready to go to sleep.

    good luck.

View Full-SizeMany people with insomnia have trouble falling asleep. If it takes you longer than 20 minutes to fall asleep each night, you may suffer from insomnia. If however, you find you fall asleep the moment your head hits the pillow, you may not be getting enough sleep, or the quality of your sleep may be poor. Either way, having trouble falling asleep is a primary symptom of insomnia.

  5. These are symptoms of insomnia and also poor quality sleep. Poor quality sleep is often caused by snoring. Many people snore at night, wake themselves up, but don't remember it the next day. They wake up tired and don't know why.
