  1. A prime Duran would have pounded out a win against a prime Hector Camacho.  Hector's career long complaint was that he never got the respect of Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran and it was true he didn't. Whether he deserved that respect is still argued to this day.

Hector got partial revenge late in their careers by KOing Ray and running to a decision against Duran, but in spite of his 3 titles, and wins over two of his four rivals, he will never hold the stature or historical respect of his contemporaries, he partied away the respect of boxing purists outside the ring.  When you consider the list of opponents Hector fought you have to acknowledge he had a hall of fame career, but he never carried himself with the poise outside the ring the other four did.  In the ring his resume is impressive.  How many guys can you name who fought a list that has:

    Oscar DeLa Hoya

    Felix Trinadad

    Julio Cesar Chavez

    Roberto Duran

    Sugar Ray Leonard

    Edwin Rosario

    Greg Haugen

    Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini

    Rafael "Bazooka" Lemon

    Jose Luis Ramirez

    Vinnie Pazienza

    Cornelias Boza Edwards

    & Howard Davis

    on it, it demands respect.

Camacho had a hall of fame career, and fought some of the best who ever lived.  It's a d**n shame he ended up where he is, but life is like that, there just aren't that many happy endings.  It never seems to work out for some people, no matter how talented they are.

  2. No but that Camacho was on his way to greatness. I see no lightweight besides a prime Sweet-Pea or Sugar-Man Mosley evn giving Duran a fight. Camacho was fast but he did not throw at different angles. With Sweet Pea and Mosley you have speed, ring smarts, and weird angles. I am not even saying they would have won. On paper they have the goods to pull it off. At 135 pounds Sweet-Pea was the original Mayweather while Mosley was a beast and a large light weight who drained down to fight. Camacho was flashy but packed just enough pop but not enough to stop.

  3. roberto duran would finish the job that edwin rosario (rip) started, winning a unanimous decision with no controversey, and letting camacho know who was boss
