  1. Absolutely.  The lotus they ate produced a euphoric effect.  Society thought that they were possessed by divine spirits when they were under the effect of the Lotus.  

    Same thing with the Oracle.  They spent their time in the temples, burning intoxicants in the incense.  The visions they saw were likely hallucinations.
