Question:

Could the USA combine domestic adoptions with foster care?

How would that work, in your opinion. The excess social workers for the now closed agencies could work in the foster care system. Would it end the $$ being made for profit?

Been tossing this idea around in my head. Could it work? why or why not.

Thanks for your answers.

  1. Yep sure.  It works in Australia and the UK amongst other countries of the world where adoption is truly a social service for the children.

Throw $$$ into the mix and we're asking for trouble - corruption and unethical practises, as evidenced in American Adoption practices.

All adoption should be a social service for the child and never a business.

  2. When Australia outlawed non profit ( for profit ) agencies and made all agencies through the state it seems to have worked much better than the US system.

I've heard and read that a surrender is final, the child is then placed into the states care. Where the state chooses the adoptive parents. PAP's are on a very very long waiting list ( adoptions there happen a handful a year compared to the states .) and i believe its on a first come first serve basis after qualification so hopefully an Aussie will come along and clear any mistakes up for me!

There are no agencies, and surrenders dropped to a couple hundred a year at the most compared to thousands, no, tens of thousands.

  3. Hi Freckle Face!

Theoretically it could work....but of course you know that--outside of government mandate--there is little possibility of people closing up shop when they are making so much money.
